Ghost and the City is a fascinating group with a diverse (and somewhat fluid) roster, an affinity for improv, roots in jazz and a head full of trip-hop; all that capped off with an impossibly soulful voice. If that doesn’t snag your attention, then… I’m not sure… you have high standards for what you call interesting!
Ash Maynor, is an eclectic mulit-instrumentalist who heads up the project, and Kia Fay is the voice. Their “Steady Trippin'” is a cool mix of classy down-tempo jazz (sax and all) and appealing, modern electro-pop, with each complimenting and bleeding into each other. Straddling a century of music and effortlessly dispensing barrels of soul, this would be the main squeeze of a private detective working the streets of a neo-1920’s alternate dimension.
Of course Akiyoshi Ehara totally kills the remix, weaving the original between slick vocal chops, volume oscillations, and jazzy synths. Enjoy!
