If “Pretend” seems a little bit chillier than their Bedroom EP, it could be because their year long hiatus from releasing new music included a trip from Cali to NY.
NY seems to be having a bit of an influence on JUDE., as the duo have spiced up “Pretend” with my favorite supplementary instrument – the saxophone. Leading an beautifully coordinated instrumental interlude, the sax line is a wonderful addition and does a legendary job of continuing the hypnotically pensive mood. Other things to look forward to include a ear-feast of percussion textures and JUDE.’s signature ghostly vocal modulation.
Oh and if you listen carfully you’ll hear glass break throughout. Genius. I think it represents the long-overdue break in the facade put up by the singer. Enjoy!
